Water-heater data plates are where inspection time goes to die. Type, brand and serial get you the manufacture date, the age frozen at inspection date, and typical lifespan — with a copy-ready report line.
Open the Equipment tab (or the Serial Lookup tool tile — it needs no open inspection), pick the item type and brand, and type the serial. Serial and model inputs auto-uppercase as you type. The decode card shows the decoded manufacturer, manufacture date, age, size and specs where a real estimate exists, rated lifespan, and confidence — plus a report line you can copy straight into the narrative.
Covered equipment: HVAC including A/C condenser units, tank and tankless water heaters, and major appliances. Manual plate-electrical readings only print when you enter them — the decoder never invents electrical values, decode methods, or ID checks.
With a job open, decoded units go into that inspection's equipment log. Snapshots freeze at the inspection date, and the log prints as its own Equipment age log section in full and rental report styles. Edit item type or location per row, remove, or copy the report line.
With nothing open, you get a standalone session report: client, property, inspector and date header, duplicate-serial warning, per-row Edit and Remove, Clear, and its own Export equipment PDF with company-footer toggle. Standalone reports save as reopenable .inspecx holders through the same Open button.
Trial installs get 3 full lookups — and only a successful decode consumes one. Mistyped or unsupported serials cost nothing, so experiment freely. From the 4th successful decode on, trial shows recognition only (item type plus manufacturer) with an invitation to subscribe — the full age, specs and report line unlock with the plan, along with unlimited decodes.
As always, decoded ages are drafting aids. Verify every insert against the plate before delivery — and against your state SOP. See all features →
